Course Objectives:

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

•  Review and discuss the difference between acute vs. chronic wounds

•  Establish a model-system of addressing factors which impede wound healing

•  Gain the ability to evaluate severity and complexity of wounds

•  Describe wound dressing principles, dressing selection, and evaluation

•  Assess wound conditions and develop a patient-centered plan of care based on best practices

Overview/Description

Wound Care 102 builds upon material covered in Wound Care 101 and provides an orientation into advanced acute and chronic wound care in the home health setting, including a discussion of advanced wound therapies such as Negative Pressure Wound Therapies and care for patients with Biological Dressings or Skin Substitute Dressings to accelerate the healing process for acute and chronic wounds, such as:

•  Pressure Ulcers/Pressure Injuries

•  Chronic Venous Insufficiency Ulcers

•  Diabetic Foot Ulcers

•  Arterials Ulcers

Attendees will…

•  Review the 4 common types of chronic ulcers

•  Learn the D.I.M.E and V.I.P W.O.M.E.N model for systematically addressing multiple barriers to wound healing

•  Be able to determine the 4 Rights of the Dressing Principles – right dressing, on the right wound for the right patient at the right time.
